This new build residence was the solution to planning resistance in respect of a proposed 2 storey dwelling proposed by others, due to its impact upon the setting of 3 adjacent Grade 2 listed buildings.

Our solution adopted the previous ground floor footprint in exactly the same location within the site and was able to retain the same gross internal floor area. The overall massing was significantly reduced by re-designing the interior layout to form a central core, improving the horizontal and vertical circulation and the arrangement of rooms, but the biggest contributing factors were that the roofscape could then be scaled down and the introduction of a basement served by a landscaped courtyard meant that a whole storey could effectively become invisible without losing any floor space. This then effectively preserved views across and through the development site to and from the adjacent listed buildings.

A palette of natural oak Tudor panelling, render infill, cheshire brick, cheshire red sandstone and natural slate was assembled to preserve the character and appearance of the surrounding properties.
